Secondaries Wild Ink Set 2025

This year’s secondaries set features two ‘tried-and-true’ colors I’ve recreated the past few years, and one wild card color: the pinkish-red Hopi Amaranthe.

I recommend painting with these on watercolor paper, as they are closest to other watercolor paints. Check out the tips in the gallery images!

Chokeberry: We have planted many chokeberry bushes, beloved by birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. I harvest chokeberries for the vibrant purple ink, and leave plenty for wildlife.

Marigold + Coreopsis: The combination of these two flowers, grown from seed each spring and planted in pots on our patio or window pots, is unbeatable for a lovely golden orange.

Hopi Red Amaranthe: From the tiniest seeds, leftover from years past, sprang multiple amaranthe plants in our garden this summer. Hope Red Amaranthe grows 4 feet tall! I took it as a sign to harvest some and create this ink again. The birds are already loving the grain this fall.
